Weaken Link vs. Banish Demon

Hey guys. So I'm taking a look through Demonologist, and this caught my eye. They have the spells Weaken Link for 138Pts. which weakens a planar link by 10, but they also have they tag skill Banish Demon for 221 pts, which banishes unless the demon's tether is too strong, at which point it reduces the tether by 5. Weaken Link seems to be the better option, doing 10 vs. 5, and is cheaper. Am I missing something? Thanks!

Yes, you are. Banish is what you use to get a Demon off this plane and back into their own. Weaken Link only weakens their link. You can weaken a link all day long without ever getting rid of the thing.

The two work in conjunction. The tricky part will be knowing when their link is weak enough to banish it.

I had assumed you kept weakening the link until they poofed.

So what you are saying is, banish does not work until the link is weak enough.

Does damaging a demon weaken the link?

Do demonologists get a way to assess left over link?

What happens if you just beat a demon down and killing blow it? Does that banish or are these skills the only way?

Correct. Yes, Damaging a Demon weakens the link, but at a much slower rate.

Unfortunately, the only tool a Demonologist has to determine link, is their senses. Their is a very deep RP aspect to the class demonologist and to demons themselves. Much will go into researching the demon, his traits, habits and what it takes to banish it. When a Demon's link is weakened sufficiently, something will happen In-game. That will be the only clue to the state of the Demon's link.

One does not simply beat down a demon. Dude...it's a demon. It'll back you up, pack you up, stack you up, & pimp smack you up. Demons come in all shapes and sizes, sometimes, violent, sometimes mischievous, maybe even helpful sometimes, but what they all have in common is they are always and forever going to be way more powerful than any PC will ever become.

But to not answer your question in a different way, ...experiment in game.

That is pretty much what I envisioned, sending the masses at the demon and the demon biding and waiting and coming in and WHAMO at the right time.

Im not sure if you are doing it on purpose or not, but fighting demons in this game sounds very similar to the way demons were approached in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

And quite frankly...well lets just say my pets names are Willow, Oz, Spike, and Kaylee.

So I am more than ok with that.

If it was a happy accident, it is still cool by me.
